2 Competitors from Sukhothai Martial Arts Academy in Charminster returned home with British Championship Belts after winning their weight divisions in the World Kickboxing Association Championships last weekend. Sukhothai entered a team of 5 Juniors, 3 boys and 2 girls - although the boys fought string and well it was the 2 girls – Courtney Johnstone and Tia Ruegg who won the -25kg and the -40kg categories respectively. This now gives both girls automatic qualification to the WKA Junior World Championships later this year to be held in Scotland.
Mace and Nate Ruegg and James Johnstone also represented but did not return home victorious this time
Sukhothai in Charminster has an International standard of professional females training out of it. Co-Owner, Denise Mellor won only last month in Portugal and is lined up for a World Title in July and ex-Junior British Champion Sally McCarthy won only 2 weeks ago in her 1st Pro International match in the luxury Island of Barbados – on which Sukhothai Fighter Bernie Menideta also gained his first International Victory. Coach and Co-Owner Lorne Castle cites the dedication of these individuals as the secret of their success “its no co-incidence that we produce Champions in all categories and ages – our training is fun yet competitive and with such a successful club there is always a different role model to inspire to be like”.
